Located in the Rift Valley, it borders the following counties; Turkana to the north, Baringo to the east, Elgeyo Marakwet and Trans Nzoia to the south, and the Republic of Uganda to the west.

Rainfall varies from 400mm (low- lands) to 1,500mm (highlands) per annum. Temperature ranges from a minimum of 10 °C to a maximum of 30 °C in different parts of the county.
