National Cereals and Produce Board handball teams successfully defended the East and Central Africa titles in the regional clubs championship at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The cereals’ women’s team won the title for the second year running, beating Police of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Magereza of Tanzania and Kenya’s Nairobi Water. Men’s edition saw Cereals lift the title in the final against Police of DRC. To reach the finals Cereals knocked out Ngome of Tanzania while DRC Police eliminated their Rwandan counterparts – Rwanda Police.
The Cereals men’s team triumph marked an unprecedented and impressive 12 wins on the trot as they took home for good the prestigious regional trophy for the fourth time. At the All Africa Games, the men’s team finished last in their group.
The women proceeded to the knock out stage but lost to Cameroon. Other tournaments in 2011 by Kenya Handball Federation included Partille Kenya Cup, Rift Valley Open, Kenyatta University Open, Western Open, JKUAT Open, Mashujaa Day Cup, Eastern Open and the Joe Muigwa Memorial.
